The Action Asylum project is a national initiative coordinated from Asylum Link, working with partners in other cities.
Jointly funded by the Task Force Trust and the National Lottery, it has partners in Portsmouth, Stockton-on Tees, Leeds, Wakefield, Cardiff and Coventry. In the coming years we will be expanding to include other Cities
Locally we run various projects including:
Wednesday Monthly Rock Climbing Session at the Climbing Hangar www.theclimbinghangar.com/refugees-rock (there is also an LGBTQI+ Frigay climbing group)
Conservation volunteering opportunities such as Tree Planting and Beach Cleans take place throughout the year. Working with the Canals and Rivers Trust, provides access to canoes and waterways.
Opportunities for creative work such as creative writing with Harbour Magazine or sculpture with the Foundry, let people draw from their previous experiences, as well as learning new things. Bird watching is a new initiative, working with the RSPB. Action Asylum also ties into the ALM Bike club, allotments and Choir.
Action Asylum connects people seeking asylum with locals to volunteer together in their communities, to improve their neighborhood and the environment. The project has its own Instagram Site which can be found here.
